- Or find a family doctor through a recommendation. Ask friends, colleagues at work and/or family members, someone who's opinion you trust, if they would recommend their family doctor. The next step is to then find out whether that doctor is accepting new patients. Sometimes, it helps if the doctor knows that one of their current patients has recommended them to you.
